Alpine Safety Code

  1. Always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.
  2. People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.
  3. You must not stop where you obstruct a trail, or are not visible from above.
  4. Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill and yield to others.
  5. Always use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.
  6. Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
  7. Prior to using any lift, you must have the knowledge and ability to load, ride and unload safely.

Inform your students on what todo when they get lost

Make sure that the student know where to go if they get separated from the group during the Lesson Check.

  • Tell them about what a ski patroller and other HWS members looks like so they can find them if they get lost.
  • Tell them where Ullr and the Ski Instructor building is located on the mountain. Describe what it looks like

In Case of an Accident

  1. Asses the injury, and call ski patrol if needed
  2. Place an “X” uphill of the accident using your poles, skis, or snowboard.
  3. DO NOT attempt to fix anything, do not move the student.
  4. Comfort the student, and try to keep them happy.
  5. After all is resolved let the officers know what happened and fill out an accident form.
