PRE-LESSON CHECK

Ask your students parents before every lesson

  • Pass
  • Pee
  • Boots on correct feet
  • do you have something to keep track of time?

CONSULT PARENTS: Ask some questions and get their phone number. Learn about the kids past experience and ability, but do not trust them 100%. Have a plan in mind before the lesson begins and ensure that it meets the parents’ goals for the children. BATHROOM: Make sure your kiddos have gone to the bathroom before you start. Remember “no pee, no ski.” If you encounter a code yellow or brown do NOT try to clean them up, contact parents. FOOD AND WATER: Is everyone ready for 2.5 hours on the slopes? Encourage parents to pack their kids a snack. Always know if there are allergies in your lessons and act accordingly. WEATHER: Check the temperature and feel it yourself. Make sure your kids have proper clothes to cover their face and are warm and comfortable for the whole lesson. EQUIPTMENT: Check boots and skis before you leave. Make sure boots fit and are on the right feet (this is more common than you might think) and that their skis are the right height. HAVE A PLAN: Do you have tissues, candy, your phone, and anything else you plan on using for your lesson? Do you know where you’re going, and have a limit for the hardest terrain you will hit today? Do you know all your kids names and what they look like? Do you have games, jokes, and distractions at the ready? TIME: Keep track of it and get them back on time! Lift lines can be slow and crowded, icy, last run on alpine can end up making you late to get the kids back to Ullr on time.
