Demonstrations

Demonstrations should

  • be exaggerated
  • be highly visible to all members of the class
  • focus on specific skill and body part
  • be repeated often, especially when learning a new skill
  • be done separately from explaining. Tell then show!

How to demo:

  1. Explain - WHAT, WHY, and HOW of the maneuver
  2. Demonstrate
    • Statically - if possible show students what to do without moving on the snow
    • Dynamically - show the maneuver towards and away from the group. Set a track for them to follow
  3. Exaggerate - It is important to give a clear picture for your students
  4. Check for Understanding - did they understand what’s new or what you are trying to show
